Chicken Lababdar Recipe

Chicken Lababdar is a Mughlai recipe which is similar to butter chicken but is made with very few ingredients and is super easy to make. The name of the recipe, ‘Chicken Lababdar’ in itself describes its heavenly taste and how it can make one forget everything and be mesmerised by it! It is a dish that can be relished anytime and anywhere, especially parties, weddings, dates, buffets, kitty parties, and pot lucks. This dish can also be enjoyed for lunch or dinner. Ingredients of Chicken Lababdar

  • 500 gm chicken
  • 2 tomato
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kasoori methi leaves
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 2 onion
  • 1/2 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • salt as required
  • 2 tablespoon butter

How to make Chicken Lababdar

Step 1 Clean the chicken and saute some veggiesClean and wash the chicken and keep it aside. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Let it splutter. Add chopped onions and saute till it becomes translucent. Now add chopped tomato and cook for a minute till it becomes tender.

Step 2. Saute and add spicesThen add the ginger and garlic paste and saute. At this point add all the spice powders like turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder and mix well. Let the masala cook for a min or till oil starts separating.

Step 3. Add chicken and cook for a whileNow add Kasoori methi and stir. After that add garam masala and mix well. Now add cleaned chicken pieces into the pan so that the masala coats it well. Then add salt. Add little water if required and cover with the lid. Cook on a medium flame till the chicken gets tender.

Step 4 . Add butter and serve hotNow add butter and mix well. Turn off the flame and serve chicken lababdar with naan or chapati.


  1. Chicken lababdar tastes wonderful with the rich garnishing of chopped coriander leaves, sliced tomatoes and shredded ginger.
  2. If you prefer a thicker and creamier gravy, add 1/2 cup fresh cream to it.
